The Clinical resource nurse provides Staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent and researcher. Supports the development of the bedside nurse, and fosters empowerment through knowledge, best practices to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice. Facilitates the educational process through assessment, development, planning and implementation of identified educational programs, orientation programs, competency training, leadership development and continuing education. In all of the CRN duties, collaborates and works with Patient Care Service leadership and with other supporting departments.
Bachelor of Science preferred in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
Experience of greater than 3 years in nursing in an acute hospital setting. Two years management experience or leadership related position preferred.

Active state nursing license. Current BLS and ACLS; Certification by an approved nursing professional organization (CCRN, ANCC, ENC) in a clinical field preferred (applicant must obtain certification within three years of accepting position).
Evaluates competence of staff, sets plans for their immediate educational needs and follows up as needed.
Develops and implements education plan for each assigned unit, each year.
Identifies educational needs of staff, as they relate to changes in service, equipment, technique or other issues. Implements programs to meet those needs.
Provides on-unit instruction and guidance for nursing staff on assigned units.
Participates in interview and selection of nurse externs, new grads and experienced staff.
Identifies house-wide education needs, plans to meet them, and implements those plans.
Welcomes students, orients them to assigned areas and assists with identification of resources for them and for their instructors.
Shows vigilance regarding patient safety, and works with unit manager, patient safety officer and other educators to identify any safety issues. Participates in plans for their resolution and implementation.
Maintains professional skill base appropriate to assigned areas, including age-specific skills.
Updates knowledge base regarding regulatory requirements, especially CMS and JC, as they relate to assigned areas. Participates in plans for staff to meet those expectations.
Lectures and gives classroom demonstrations on subjects and illustrates using audiovisual equipment, models, etc.
Observes and evaluates staff performance in actual situations, and assists, guides and instructs as necessary.
Maintains clinical proficiency by working with actual patients and staff on units.
Understands hospital policies and procedures and incorporates them in all of the education provided.
Maintains appropriate system of records for orientation, competency and required inservices.
Supports and interprets the hospital's Christian mission and philosophy and objectives of the hospital and department.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, workshops and community activities.
Serves on hospital and department committees as required.
Collaborates with PCS leadership, Organizational Development, Quality and all other necessary departments on staff development.
